Living a Great Life - Decide to Accept the Aging Process!
We live in a society that is truly fixated on trying to stay young for as long as you can and it's a society that seems to hold more value in youth than any other stage of our lives. This then of course makes it difficult for most people to accept the fact that they are aging. It makes it extremely difficult for many to face the aging process.
But it's a fact of life and we all need to try and not let society dictate how we are going to react to the natural order of things. Growing older can and should be a journey that finally gives you time for true personal growth and we need to accept aging and do it without anxieties or fear.
The first thing you should do if you are feeling anxious about getting older is try and figure out just where that fear and anxiety is really coming from. Could it be that you thought by the time you were 50 or so that you would have not only bought and sold your first home, you'd be living in the home of your dreams by now? And it simply didn't happen, in fact you don't even own a home. Is it because you never got to see the world or you hoped you'd be in a lot better health than you are?
If so, it's time to take stock of your life and be honest with yourself. Are some of those lofty goals you've held onto all these years really all that important anymore? If you discover they aren't then just accept the fact that the goals you had just happened to change over the years. Once you admit this to yourself you can go a head and set new goals for your life and start taking the steps you need to do to accomplish your new goals.
Don't be afraid to give yourself some credit for some of the things that you have done and achieved over the years. Figure out what those achievements are. Was it your career, your family, work you did as a volunteer, did you overcome addictions, did you help others to learn things you learned over the years? Whatever you have done in your life, take time out to reflect back upon those things and decide what more you can do in your future years.
Get together with friends who might be a little older than you, include family members as well and talk to them about the things they did when they finally accepted the fact there was no fighting the aging process. Ask them how they felt, what their experiences were including the good ones and the bad ones. Make sure to read books about how to accept the fact that you are aging.
Try and adjust your lifestyle to a more healthy lifestyle if you feel some of the things you do just aren't cutting it when it comes to your health. If you have poor health it's only going to interfere with your ability to actually enjoy these years and you need to be able to continue to enjoy life.
Don't be afraid to be a little bit of a risk taker and get out and try new things. Meet new people by joining community groups, getting involved at church, join a club, take up an exciting hobby. If you have the money then take a trip out of the country. Sit down and write a book about your life or take up writing fiction about something you love. Continue to challenge yourself and you won't even have time to worry about aging.
